What is the difference between a sprain and a strain?

A sprain is a stretch and/or tear of a ligament affecting a joint or bone, while a strain is an injury to either a muscle or a tendon. Strain is lesser in severity than a sprain. Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevation of the affected part (RICE) is the first therapy to consider. It is highly recommended for the first 24 to 48 hours after the injury. Homeopathic remedies can effectively control pain.
